If you look up the definition of warrior in the dictionary, you will probably see a picture of Mark Hunt staring back at you. The guy is a living legend. After taking what can only be considered a super punch from heavyweight contender Junior Dos Santos in round 1 of their recent UFC 160 fight, Hunt stayed in the game until the last round before being caught cleanly with a spinning reverse kick. How he jumped back to his feet after that punch in round 1 is beyond me. His chin must be made of cast iron.
Unfortunately, whilst in the hospital following his UFC 160 fight, doctors discovered that he had a staph infection. This is a deadly infection that many BJJ and MMA fighters have the risk in catching (any martial artist or athlete runs the risk of catching it though it is common in BJJ/MMA circles). This nasty bacterium that can life-threatening if not caught early.
Hunt shared a video of himself following surgery with his followers. You can see it below….but be warned, this is not for those of you who are squeamish. The infection ate through his skin and his muscle. Disgusting!
On the bright side, Hunt sounds as if he is making a full recovery. Not content with being one one of the deadlist knockout punches in the world, Hunt is also one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Here’s hoping he’s back in the octagon kicking ass within the next few months. WAR HUNT!!! 🙂
