Jackie Chan didn’t start out as the leading man in a bunch of action films. He actually started out as a stuntman in Fists of Fury and Enter the Dragon. In fact, he suffered the wrath of Bruce Lee’s menacing blow with a staff while doing a scene in Enter the Dragon . This kick start in the school of hard knocks led him to be of the top dogs when it comes to modern day action/comedy films. With an extensive resume of over 40 years in the business and a global appeal, it’s easy to see why he’s one of the greats. Here are ten funny fight scenes over the years of his illustrious career:
1. Chopstick fight for food
Whomever had the idea to create and choreograph a scene dedicated to keep away was a genius. In this scene of The Fearless Hyena, we see a young Jackie try to grab the meat to go with his big bowl of rice. Watch as he tries desperately to save his rather humble meal!
2. Blasian fun in big China
If you’ve seen the previous Rush Hour films, you’d know Detective Carter (Chris Tucker) always made fun of Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) because of his height. It was rather funny because Carter expect an Asian man to make him the one to look so short this time. This is one of the funniest scenes because this behemoth pretty easily outmatches Lee and Carter at the same time.
3. I’m trying to take a bath here
This is quite hilarious because Jackie can’t take a bath without getting followed. This turns out to be a pretty hilarious scene in The Accidental Spy.
4. Brothers forever
A hilarious in Dragons Forever where you have Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, and Sammo Hung in an all out brawl. You can definitely see the influence of The Three Stooges here.
5. Underwater fight
While this isn’t necessarily meant to be funny, it does have some interesting scenes such as Chan remembering to stay still when a shark’s at bay. Also, he utilizes the breathing device from his foes in between punches and kicks in his fight underwater. Great scene from Jackie Chan’s First Strike!
6. Kicks galore
One of my personal favorite scenes from Who Am I? Chan loses his memory but does not forget his fighting skills. Two guys are after him and he ends up in a kicking stand-off that lands his shins in some serious pain! A serious laugh out loud moment.
7. The Way of Epic Drunken Boxing
We see Chan in the 90s classic The Legend of the Drunken Master. He gets into brawl all while being completely drunk out of his mind. It’s amazing how he’s so fluid, powerful, and funny in his movements.
8. My twin
Chan plays a dual role in Twin Dragons. People cannot tell the difference between him and his twin brother in this scene.
9. Singing with the Rain
There’s no doubt about it that Chan is heavily inspired by old flicks. Here he takes a piece of Gene Kelly’s “Singing with the Rain” and does a graceful and funny fight scene using an umbrella. One of the best scenes from Shanghai Knights.
10. Jackie Chan becomes Chun-Li (YATTA!)
This will always be my all time favorite. There are a bunch of characters played in this scene: Dhalsim, Guile, E. Honda, Ken, etc. However, Jackie Chan plays the perfect Chun-Li! This will have you in stitches from all the laughter! City Hunter is definitely one of his funniest movies.
