Those of you who subscribe to the official UFC YouTube channel will know of Sage Northcutt.
Towards the end of September 2015 they published a short video showing Dana White watching a young 19 year old fighter called Sage Northcutt. Dana had went to an MMA event in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on 26 June 2015, to watch Northcutt fight Gage Duhon.
Northcutt had walked into the fight with a winning record of 3 and 0. He had a tremendous fight and took his record to 4 and 0 with a rear naked choke.
Northcutt went on to fight Rocky Long on 28 August 2015 in Legacy Fighting Championship 44. He went to the second round for the first time in his short career and won via a neck crank.
Fast forward to last night (3 October 2015), and Northcutt made his debut against Francisco Trevino in the prelims of “UFC 192 – Cormier vs. Gustafsson”.
To say that the young fighter made an impression on his debut would be an understatement. Northcutt capitalised on a slip by Trevino 40 seconds into the first round and swarmed him with punches before taking him down and finishing the fight with elbows.
The devastating nature of the win, and the post match celebrations, suggests that a new star has been born.
A highlight reel of Northcutt’s amateur fights and earlier professional fights showcases what this young man can do.
Without a doubt, we are going to see Sage Northcutt get some interesting fights in the UFC over the next few years. There is no telling how far this kid can go.
