The original Ip Man film proved to be a huge success. Donnie Yen was fantastic as Bruce Lee’s wing chun master Ip Man (Yip Man) in a tale which got the right mix between the story and martial arts action.
It spawned a successful sequel in 2010 and inspired a revitalised interest in Yip man with people around the world. This is why we saw a host of other Yip Man inspired films and shows, such as The Legend Is Born: Ip Man with Dennis To, The Grandmaster with Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Ip Man: The Final Fight with Anthony Wong, and the TV series Ip Man which starred Kevin Cheng as Ip Man.
Whilst these films and TV series did have their moments, none received the same accolades as the Donnie Yen film series that inspired them all. It looked like we would never see an Ip Man 3 because Donnie Yen was reluctant to do so, so I am sure you will all be pleased to hear that Yen changed his mind.
A couple of days ago, a teaser trailer for the upcoming Ip Man 3 was released online. Enjoy 🙂
Ip Man 3 is being released at the end of the year in Hong Kong and the rest of the world in 2016.
Mike Tyson stars as a hardened street fighter and the legendary Bruce Lee is recreated using CGI. With the success of the first two films, and the fact Donnie Yen said this could be his last kung fu film, I have no doubt that it will be an amazing film.
I for one cannot wait to see it 🙂
